Entheos – 2024

Venue: The Fillmore, Charlotte, NC Date: July 29, 2024

The feeling of anticipation was almost tangible as I received an email informing me that I had been given the opportunity to review a band that I had been eagerly following for some time. Excitedly, I packed my camera gear and made my way to the Filmore in downtown Charlotte, NC. As I arrived, the ominous sound of thunder and the sudden downpour just beyond the venue's double doors seemed to hint at the electrifying experience that lay ahead.

Once inside, the stage was bathed in an eerie glow as the band members made their entrance. Frontwoman Chaney Crabb, holding her horns high, unleashed a powerful performance with the opening song All for Nothing, filling the venue with her commanding vocals.

The crowd was visibly energized, and as she introduced the band as Entheos, they launched into Absolute Zero and then seamlessly transitioned into In Purgatory, captivating everyone in the room. Chaney skillfully controlled the energy of the crowd, urging them to keep the pit alive and dynamic.

After a brief introduction, Chaney announced the upcoming release of their new EP An End to Everything, and teased us with a taste of it. The song An End to Everything resonated through the venue, reminding us that the spirit of progressive deathcore is undoubtedly alive and well. Transitioning into a melodic yet intense performance of Into the Void, the band showcased their musical prowess, enveloping the audience in an immersive experience.

As the band expressed their gratitude and shared some introspective words, they treated us to Life in Slow Motion and White Noise from their album Dark Future, before concluding the set with the anthemic The Sinking Sun. Their parting words echoed a powerful message of kindness and living life to the fullest. The electrifying atmosphere and the band's captivating performance left an indelible impression on the crowd, with the unanimous sentiment that Entheos had indeed struck like lightning.

I enthusiastically encourage anyone who has the opportunity to catch them live on tour, and for those who can't, do check out their forthcoming EP "An End to Everything
